Queer Concordia Artist Bursaries

Queer Concordia is providing 5 Bursaries of $2,000 each to Concordia undergraduate students!

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 9 credits or be recognized as a Full-time student
  • Has not opted out of the Queer Concordia Fee-Levy
  • Identifies as a queer student
  • Agrees to be in a showcase during the month of April or May with the other Artists

These bursaries are not based on academic achievement and we strongly encourage those who have not previously received awards or bursaries to apply!

Selection process

Applications will be open until December 8th.

Recipients will know by January 1st if they have been selected.

The board of directors will review applications and have 25 points to distribute per board member. A maximum of 5 points may be given to any single application.

Points across the applications will then be tallied in a ranked choice ordering system to ensure fairness and reach an unbiased consensus.

FAQ

  • Are bursaries only given once a year?
    • Yes, bursaries applications are opened in the Fall semester and distributed in February in the Winter Semester.
    • Queer Concordia will send recipients the bursary as a lump sum in the month of February. We will also send you a T4A for tax purposes later on.
  • Are the bursaries limited to any specific discipline(s)?
    • All disciplines may apply! Please keep in mind the ability to display your work in the showcase may influence the selection process.
  • Do I need to be enrolled in Fine Arts to apply?
    • Nope! The Queer Concordia Artist Bursaries are open to all enrolled undergraduate students.
  • I am currently a student but will graduate in December, am I still eligible?
    • Unfortunately not. Students must remain enrolled across the Fall and Winter semesters.
  • What would help my application?
    • While art is subjective, clear themes of queerness within your body of work may strengthen your application.
  • How long is the showcase?
    • It will likely be installed for 5 – 7 days. We are currently working on partnering with a gallery around the SGW Campus.
  • What if I become unavailable to participate in the showcase?
    • We will ask you to come and display your work regardless if you are available for opening night. You will need to provide instructions for us for setup.
  • Are there any other requirements from Queer Concordia if selected?
    • Just participation in the showcase! We will leave you to your own creative process.
  • Are there aditional resources provided to the selected artists?
    • Queer Concordia will likely do profiles through our social media channels to help promote the recipients! This will be posted on our Instagram, Discord and Website.
  • Can I still apply if I am a part time student?
    • Yes you may stilly apply
