    Queering Waste: The Commodification of Queer Identity and the Disposability of Queer People – Call for Participants

    I am inviting full-time students enrolled at Queen’s University or Concordia University to take part in a research study.
    The purpose of this study is to see how queer individuals understand their identity as it relates to consumption.

    If you agree to take part, I will interview you for approximately one hour at a public location you choose OR via Zoom. The interview will be audio-recorded by phone recorder or by Zoom software (if virtual) and later transcribed.

    There is a risk that some of the questions may upset you emotionally, cover sensitive or personal issues, or bring up culturally sensitive
    topics. If you feel upset after the interview, please call the Telephone Aid Line Kingston (TALK) at 613-544-1771, Ontario’s LGBTQ2+ Youthline at 1-800-268-9688 or Québec’s Interligne at 1-888-505-1010.

    There are no direct benefits to you as a participant. Study results may help guide queer university students to more effectively combat
    marginalization. You will not be paid for taking part in this study.

    Against The Current – Call for Participants

    Recently, Egale officially launched recruitment for a national research study called “Against the Current: A mixed methods study of 2SLGBTQI people’s experiences of hate and violence in Canada“.

    We are currently seeking up to 100 2SLGBTQI people to participate in the project by taking part in an interview about their experiences.

    You can also check out the landing page here. 2SLGBTQI people can participate in this project in either French or English. There is a $100 honorarium provided for participation in an interview. 

    About the research project: We hope to learn about 2SLGBTQI people’s experiences of and concerns about hate and violence  across Canada. Hate and violence includes online and street harassment, physical violence, sexual violence, and more. It can come from many places including an intimate partner, family member, or stranger.

    We are starting with a qualitative phase (interviews) and there will be a national survey launching later in 2025. This project has been approved by the Community Research Ethics Board (#415) and the research ethics boards of TMU, University of Windsor, and MacEwen University.

    GRS Vaginoplasty Survey

    This survey specifically asks about experiences with Montreal’s GRS clinic. If you had surgery at a clinic other than the GRS, please do not fill out this survey; however, we would be happy to interview you about your experience!

    You are eligible to take this survey if you are at least 3 months post-op.

    Data usage

    Our goal for this survey is to collect data people’s experience at GRS, and to use this information to advocate for better practices at GRS and associated medical organizations. All submissions are kept strictly confidential, but information from your submissions will be used internally by the TPU and may be included in aggregate statistics discussed with GRS and other organizations (e.g. 50% of patients reported being misgendered).
