Fee Levy Increase

Want to help us as an organization vote yes for our fee levy increase for the following benefits!

$50,000 Gender Affirming Insurance Fund

As the current insurance policy makes the gender affirmation benefit inaccessible through requiring students to pay upfront for their procedural costs, students are unable to pay for their care. Our fund loans the money interest free for their entitled care and re-circulates the funds once reimbursed. Up to $10,000 per person. Currently the fund sits at $20,000 because of COVID-era surplus budget.

  • Available for any registered undergraduate students
  • Up to $10,000
  • Financially sustainable program! The money we offer is re-circulated throughout the community to help as many people as possible!

Free Weekly Events!

As it stands right now this is the furthest we can really do with our association! We intend on making all events free or at cost for limited spaced events. Limited space events like our Queer Prom will become $5, meaning we will take on the cost of the over $12,000 of what the event itself costs to organize.

$30,000 Community Project Fund

We recognize how valuable funding projects can be and we intend on giving back to the community that helps support us. Concordia students will be able to receive up to $3,000 for any project aimed at benefitting the community.

This fund will be open to all current undergraduate students at Concordia. Regardless of what your project is, we encourage you to apply! Decisions on funding are filtered for anonymity and then processed by our team.

Members of our team are ineligible to claim project funding.

Projects that have a queer focus or help the queer community at Concordia are given priority but they may be for anything!

$10,000 in Artist Bursaries

Art is not done for profit, and we want to be able to support artists at Concordia so they might focus on their craft and contribute something meaningful to the Concordia community and beyond. $10,000 will be allocated for 5 $2,000 bursaries for students enrolled in any undergraduate Fine Arts program at Concordia.

Re-establishing Concordia’s Queer Alumni Network

As of now the Concordia Alumni Association has a queer alumni network, but that only consists of a few dozen people invited to a Facebook group.
Concordia is pretty gay and we hope to leverage this for all former students to help each other out, especially in this economy!

Charity Status

A budget of this size will allow us to pursue charity status. This will decrease our reliance on fee levy funding in the future so that we can pursue meaningful programs without impacting students’ finances. Our current budget of about $10,000 annually is far too small for what charity status requires.

Free Gender Affirming Supplies

Gaffs, Binders and more will be offered at our office at no cost! If you would like to pay what you can, the option to donate is available on our Tickets & Donations page

Full Time Office Hours

We intend on making our office hours available every day of work week. This will allow students to access scanning and printing services, free safe sex supplies and a quiet place to unwind.

Queer Advocacy

As the world for Queer people becomes increasingly unsafe, we hope to be a beacon of hope not only at Concordia, but for the greater community. We have already engaged in advocacy at a grander scale in regards to gender affirming healthcare, the increase would enable us to advocate as a part of our core programming.

Additionally confronting Montreal’s riot police problem by directly attending and speaking with city officials of Montreal’s Executive Committee and the SPVM to ensure that we can demonstrate without fear of police brutality.

Having a Reliable Team

As it stands currently, no one at Queer Concordia is compensated for their work.

We are 100% volunteer based which has become unsustainable.

The increase would allow us to pay for one full time employee position, and any other members of our team an honorarium to encourage dedication and prevent burnout.

The Employee position will be in charge of all regular operations for Queer Concordia, including our office, our GAC Fund, Project applications, bursary applications, event organizing, the Queer Alumni Network, etc.

Transparent Budgeting & Planning

Still not satisfied? Take a look at our exact budget proposal that was submitted and approved by the CSU (TBD for 2025/26)

Additional Collaborations

It can be difficult for us to have the capacity as an organization to collaborate with others as our budget is the smallest amongst all the current fee levy groups.

An increase would mean growing our presence on campus and helping out others who could benefit from our help. Whether that be the Concordia Administration, the CSU, or other Fee levies!

We hope to not only be dedicated to helping Queer students, but a lively resource for everyone at Concordia!
